• We respond to our clients as writer to writer, working with them to develop their writing ‘voice’ and their work.

• As tutors, we do not operate a ‘tick-the-box’ approach to our clients’ work. Just as every writer is an individual and unique, so their writing demands an individual response – considered, constructive and with the insight that only another writer can give to a piece.

• We don’t ask clients to commit themselves to a particular period of study. Clients don’t have to pay for a course or series of tutorial sessions – they can pay for as many or as few sessions as they require.

• Whatever your needs as a writer, The Writers’ Ark can probably suggest a way to meet them. Contact the individual tutor to discuss your requirements.

• Take on any writer just to make money. If we can't help, we will say so, giving reasons.

• Claim, imply or promise publication.

• Claim that we are a gateway to agents: if we have helped improve a manuscript our belief is that the author can then submit it direct to a publisher or agent without the intervention of another party;

• Charge for services an author doesn't need.
